Cooperation

Coordination and collaboration in Germany

In concert with InWEnt (Capacity Building International, Germany), the project holds regular training sessions on how to implement environmental conventions. Together, we also created Global Campus 21, a virtual platform that gives former participants of training sessions and any other interested parties an opportunity for further training whenever and wherever they wish, as well as to exchange information and experiences and to work on joint projects.

Through public-private partnerships (PPP), the project engages in activities with individual private companies. In cooperation with Indocement it is for instance executing trainings for environmental authorities and an air quality laboratory in Indonesia on the subject of emission control in the cement industry.

The project uses a multidisciplinary approach that touches on many different areas of Development Cooperation, such as environmental protection, health, education, agriculture, industrial policy, occupational health and safety, and the efficiency of state-run institutions. Thus the project cooperates in partner countries with the projects of other German Development Cooperation implementing organisations (GTZ, KfW, DED, CIM, etc.).

International cooperation

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the project is involved in international negotiations on the Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions. On the one hand, this activity opens opportunities for adjusting project activities to international developments as they arise, and on the other it permits our project work experience to flow into the international discussion. The project is involved in the work of the Intergovernmental Forum on Chemical Safety (IFCS) through the German Environment Ministry, which acts as the IFCS national focal point. One of the responsibilities of the IFCS is to harmonise international activities to implement Chapter 19 of Agenda 21. To generate synergy and prevent duplication of work, the project seeks cooperation with international networks (INFOCAP), associations (e.g., CropLife International, Euro Chlor, IPEN, PAN, WWF) and organisations such as UNEP, UNIDO, UNITAR, FAO, ILO, WHO, OECD, UNDP and the World Bank.
