The aim of the “Knowledge systems in rural areas” project is to use concepts and instruments that increase technical and organisational know-how and enhance the application of knowledge in rural areas. The primary users are specialists in Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), in cooperation development programmes, and in partner organisations. The project works in the following areas:

• reform of rural services (agricultural research and extension)
• training in commercial agricultural production
• non-formal vocation-related upgrading
• strategic use of media (digital, print, rural radio, e-learning, etc.) in rural development.
