Example: Symposium on the effects of certification

Forest certification had two anniversaries to celebrate in 2004. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) had its 10th anniversary and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC) had its fifth. These events were a good opportunity to review the progress of forest certification in the tropics and to deal with criticism of the process. To this end, Yale University commissioned a range of comprehensive case studies in developing and transitional countries. They were presented at an international symposium from 10 to 11 June 2004. The symposium was entitled Forest Certification in Developing and Transitioning Societies: Social, Economic, and Ecological Effects and was held with the support of GTZ.
