We are currently focusing on support in four fields:

Capacity Building

  • Training courses for key players in forest certification in developing countries (e.g. chain of custody course for furniture producers in Bolivia, training courses in China and Colombia, group certification of smallholders in the Dominican Republic)
  • Inputs to workshops on particular issues (e.g. bamboo seminar in Ecuador)
  • Seminars for German Development Cooperation staff

Networks

  • Networking among key players at specialist forest certification conferences
  • Supporting the subject on a national and international level (e.g. symposium at Yale University)

Publications and reports

  • Reports and studies on relevant aspects of certification (e.g. "Social impacts of certification in Latin America" and "Marketing strategy of Amazonian certified timber in the south of Brazil")
  • Series of working papers (studies on institutional requirements for certification systems, certification and ILO conventions as well as local auditing systems)

Information Service

  • information service on the internet
  • collection of training materials
  • mail-order of documents
