Promotion of Responsible Fisheries
Worldwide, approximately 200 million people live from fishery and aquaculture. Most of these people belong to the poorest sections of the population. As aquatic resources continue to be overexploited worldwide, sustainable fisheries management is essential for food security, income and employment in rural and coastal populations. In cooperation with the GIZ (former GTZ) project Visayan Sea (Philippines) and a local Philippine government organisation, the project developed the training module CCRF for Decision-Makers. The training programme supports the introduction of sustainable fisheries management and helps communicate the Code to people employed in the fisheries sector. The effective implementation of CCRF relies on the broad dissemination information and best practices at national and international level. The valuable experience gained in ongoing and completed development projects will therefore be assessed by the sector project and made available for other projects and institutions as well as to the public.
