Renewable energies

Hydroelectric power plant in Chile

According to International Energy Agency estimates, the global demand for energy will rise by roughly 55 % by 2030, and over 70 % of this growth will take place in developing and emerging countries. Given the possible impact on the climate, this demand cannot be met by oil, gas and coal alone.

GIZ supports the introduction of renewable energies such as wind energy, bio-energy, solar energy and hydropower in the partner regions by providing methodological, sectoral and financial advisory services. It empowers partner organisations to utilise their own potential to provide sustainable energy services.

By using renewable energies and establishing long-term energy security, dependence on imported energy can be reduced and energy prices can be stabilised in the long run. In addition, the use of renewable energies creates regional and local employment, added value for the regions concerned and fewer greenhouse gas emissions.
