Forward-looking construction
Building in other countries, in other cultures, often differs dramatically from building in Germany. The construction design needs to be adapted to the culture and climate, and building materials available locally should be used. Financing, construction regulations, and interaction with local authorities must be tailored to the situation in the partner country. Sustainable planning implies that the effects of the construction project on society and culture must also be given equal consideration. In addition to tasks at the purely architectural level, the users and future owners of the buildings are involved in the preparation and implementation of the construction measures. Our partners are local architects and building contractors who are offered further training as required. By using local resources, we strengthen the local economy and help to create jobs. This process includes mobilising and boosting individual initiative. Infrastructural measures can be seen and utilised well beyond the end of the project term. That is why it is particularly important to find solutions that are ecologically compatible, structurally safe and cost-effective. We endeavour to minimise the consumption of energy and resources and to conserve the ecosystem. In our partner countries, this encompasses everything from the production of construction materials and building components, to planning, construction and use, and even includes rehabilitation, demolition, and waste disposal. We advise our partners on identifying their building and infrastructure needs and on selecting architects and engineers. In order to assure good quality management, we provide technical, scheduling and financial support throughout the entire construction process, right up to the hand-over to our partners. We implement executing building construction measures for a number of clients, including housing construction and rehabilitation, schools, health care units and hospitals, administration buildings and farm buildings. We also focus on energy-efficient construction such as rehabilitating prefabricated blocks. Other key areas of our work include civil engineering, road building and bridge construction. After natural disasters and conflicts, we assist in the reconstruction aspect of emergency aid, e.g. after the tsunami in Sri Lanka, India and Indonesia, and in post-conflict Georgia. Our clients include the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the EU, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the German Federal Foreign Office (AA). |
