Strong alliances

GIZ can draw on deep expert knowledge and many years of experience in climate protection. Global tasks such as climate change mitigation and adaptation require international cooperation among strong partners. This is why GIZ builds upon alliances with leading institutions in the realms of policy-making, academia and the private sector worldwide. Leveraging their comparative strengths, GIZ and its partners develop innovative approaches and strive jointly to disseminate these swiftly and efficiently.

The right partner

Innovation where necessary, broad reach where possible, and alliances with strong partners – it is in this triad that GIZ works to deliver effective contributions to cope with climate change.

Worldwide operations

GiZ has operations in more than 130 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Mediterranean and Middle East regions, Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia. We have our own offices in 87 countries. Climate change mitigation and adaptation are a part of the daily operations of 322 of GIZ’s projects – one in five of all projects, with a contract volume totalling around one billion euros. Climate goals are a primary objective of eight per cent of all GIZ projects and programmes. A further twelve per cent contribute actively to climate change mitigation or adaptation without this being their core objective.
