UN Decade Conference: Knowledge and values for a sustainable world

Global problems such as climate change and poverty are threatening the life chances of future generations. The international community clearly recognises that a change of course is called for. The UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005–2014) is intended to contribute to this. It calls on all people to adopt as their own the values fundamental to a future that is worth living and to positive social change. At the World Conference from 31 March to 2 April in Bonn, 700 participants will be undertaking a mid-term review. This issue of GTZ Themenservice supplies examples of how GTZ is helping people and societies in their efforts to learn sustainability.

Interviews on offer with GTZ education experts on the UN Decade Conference:

  • Mrs Nikola Dzembritzki explains how GTZ promotes education for sustainable development (ESD) in the partner countries of German development cooperation.
  • Dr Rolf Mack has been working with schools on integrating sustainable development into classroom teaching. In Frankfurt, for example, he initiated the school competition on diversity 'Vielfalt statt Einfalt'.

If you would like to interview the GTZ experts on this theme, please contact the Press Office.
