ApproachDevelopment partnerships with the private sector combine business interests with development policy goals, for instance, in the fields of training, environmental protection, energy and technology transfer. In development partnerships, each partner contributes what it does best: GIZ supplies know-how and contacts, supports concept-development and financing, coordinates the various measures, and networks with other important decision-makers – also supra-regionally. Private companies contribute technology, capital and expertise and are usually responsible for carrying out the projects on site. The partners share the costs and risks equally. A broad spectrum of development partnerships has already come to fruition in this way: from the innovative idea of a medium-sized enterprise to large-scale strategic alliances that impact on an entire sector. New partnerships often profit from cooperation with existing GIZ projects and programmes. GIZ’s partners are transnational groups like Daimler, and also companies and establishments with fewer than ten employees. Whether it’s a question of developing social standards for different countries or training heating engineers in Mongolia, development partnerships make cooperation on a large or small scale possible. |
