What we offer
Emergency aid
We provide immediate and humanitarian aid. Through food aid we help to safeguard food security for the population in affected areas.
Reconstruction for crisis prevention
We support the rehabilitation and reconstruction of destroyed areas. We promote the reconstruction of decentralised public and private structures and assist the population in securing a sustainable livelihood. In conflict areas we support the development of peaceful conflict resolution capacities and reconciliation, and promote demobilisation and the reintegration of soldiers, for example. Increasing safety and preventing violence are significant elements of our work.
Disaster preparedness
In cases of disaster we also offer risk analyses to ensure that reconstruction measures are geared to disaster prevention. We support measures to prevent and prepare for disasters.
What you can achieve with us
We provide emergency relief in combination with support for sustainable social development processes. The advantages of this approach are particularly evident in cases of conflict and disaster, as
- it not only safeguards the population's immediate survival, but also stabilises social and public structures that are subsequently the basis for development
- prevention of future conflicts and disasters can be improved thanks to enhanced capacities in the population and public and private institutions that are better qualified and prepared to respond.
How we work
Our experts have extensive experience in the field of development-oriented emergency aid, reconstruction for crisis prevention, food security and disaster preparedness. Our services are targeted directly at the people affected by conflict and disaster. Governments, local authorities and non-governmental organisations are partners in our projects. They are trained to prepare for future conflicts and disasters. We
- procure food and equipment
- provide advice on constructive conflict management, disaster preparedness, physical and institutional reconstruction and food security
- offer training in the fields of development-oriented emergency aid, reconstruction for crisis prevention, food security and disaster preparedness, and arrange the placement of expert staff.
Thanks to our extensive experience, broad regional and country knowledge and GTZ's field structures in many partner countries, we are able to implement emergency aid measures within a very short space of time and, using a development-oriented approach, continue these in the medium term.
