Working for GTZ
A discussion with villagers on the dusty village square in the morning followed by an appointment with the Minister of Economics in the afternoon and a World Bank reception in the evening. Next week an international conference in Geneva, and then back to your country of assignment for the annual conference of mayors. The work schedule of a GTZ staff member is never boring and extremely demanding. You will be dealing with an enormously wide spectrum of individuals and will face constantly changing cultural challenges, which will call for finely-honed interpersonal skills as well as the ability to operate at top political level. Your technical expertise will be called for as well as psychological sensitivity.
The variety of levels at which you will be working is topped only by the number of thematic areas we embrace: from economic promotion to decentralisation, peace building to procurement and logistics, education to health, gender equality to climate and environmental protection, and of course water and agricultural policy, to give you but a brief overview. The list of fields in which GTZ operates is long. More importantly though, these areas are not isolated sectors, but are linked and connected in a variety of ways. You will always be called on to look at the bigger picture. GTZ offers a challenging and exciting working environment in which you will be helping to improve the living conditions of people in the poorer parts of our world. |
