RCREEE Regional Renewable Energy Conference in Amman, Jordan

How can the vast sun and wind potential in the MENA region be mobilized for a sustainable energy production? What must the state do in order to attract private sector investment in renewable energies? Is it realistic to export green electricity from the desert to Europe? And: how can the MENA countries benefit from initiatives such as Desertec? These issues are at the centre of the RCREEE Regional Renewable Energy Conference that takes place in Amman on 4 February 2010.

It is expected that 120 high level representatives from politics and business will attend the event. The CEO of the Desertec Industrial Initiative, Paul van Son, will present the concept of the Desertec Industrial Initiative and respond to questions. Further, RCREEE will present the results of a comparative study of the regulatory framework for renewable energies in the MENA region, the most comprehensive study of its kind to date.

RCREEE is a regional policy platform based in Cairo active in the promotion of renewable energies. Set up by 10 member states from the MENA region in 2008, the German MInistry of Economic Cooperation (BMZ) supports RCREEE through GTZ with an amount of Euro 6 million during the period of 2008 to 2013. RCREEE receives further support from Denmark, Egypt and the EU.
