Eschborn Dialogue 2010

Key Visual of the Eschborn Dialogue 2010

Diversity: the culture factor

This years topic of the Eschborn Dialogue is "Diversity: the culture factor".

Diversity is essential to development. Diversity is about having alternatives; it’s about openness and opportunities for growth. But what role does culture play in development? Culturally sensitive approaches have a particularly sustainable impact on a country or region’s economic, political and social development. For international cooperation to be successful, it must take into account the local culture.

What does this mean in practice? What cultural factors are key to the development of democratic structures and economic systems? How does cultural diversity influence the way a society develops? What opportunities does it open up? At the Eschborn Dialogue, we will examine the influence of culture on rural, social and economic development, biodiversity and energy, and discuss its impact on political structures and legal systems.

More than 450 experts met at this year's Eschborn Dialogue to explore the practical and theoretical challenges of bringing culture and development together and to discuss about diversity as culture factor.
